The course aims to acquire the skills and knowledge that are essential for practicing legal professions. It should enable academic work, critical thinking and responsible action in a free, democratic and social constitutional state. This includes specialist knowledge in the basic and core legal subjects as well as case-solving, argumentation and presentation techniques as well as language skills. In particular, the course should enable students to answer legal questions in a European and global context, to recognize the political, social, historical and cultural contexts of law and to develop new developments independently.

Successful law studies conclude with the acquisition of the first legal examination and qualify for professions in science, civil society, culture, economy and politics as well as for the legal preparatory service, which is completed with the second state legal examination and for work in the state-regulated Qualified as a lawyer, judge or administrative officer in the non-technical higher service.

The Law Faculty maintains exchange relationships with over 30 partner universities. In preparation for a stay abroad, a "foreign language law degree" is offered. In cooperation with several partner universities, the Law Faculty also offers various programs in which several degrees can be obtained.

The course is divided into modules. Course achievements in the amount of 270 credit points must be achieved. One credit point (LP) corresponds to a workload of a maximum of 30 hours.

State compulsory subject examination (10th semester)
The exam is taken in front of the Joint Legal Examination Office of the States of Berlin and Brandenburg (GJPA) and consists of a written and an oral part.
