Программа обучения Materials Science and Material Engineering

Программа обучения "Materials Science and Material Engineering" в Friedrich–Alexander University Erlangen–Nürnberg

Materialwissenschaft und Werkstofftechnik

The Materials Science and Materials Engineering (MWT) course is shaped like no other specialist course by a wide and varied application of scientific knowledge and working methods. Therefore, the required knowledge in the natural science subjects of mathematics, physics and chemistry is taught in the bachelor's program together with a broad introduction to the field of materials. There are also engineering subjects such as technical mechanics, design theory and computer science.

Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Materials Science and Material Engineering"

Materials are used to manufacture objects with a wide variety of properties and requirement profiles - from microchips and skis to vehicles and space shuttles.

The application of the material results in certain requirements regarding its properties. These include, for example, high mechanical strength and toughness, chemical resistance to moisture and aggressive media of all kinds (corrosion) or optical, electrical, dielectric or magnetic properties. Which material is used for a specific task also depends on the requirements of the manufacturing process and also on economic aspects.

Building on the basic knowledge of chemistry, physics and mathematics, the materials scientist deals with the relationships between production, structure and properties of the materials. He looks at the entire material, from its atomic structure to the macroscopic component.

Учебный план программы обучения "Materials Science and Material Engineering"

Basics and orientation phase = basics + overview

An important milestone in this section is the so-called basic and orientation test (GOP). It contains four exams to be taken after the second semester and consists of the study modules Mathematics (1 + 2), Materials: Manufacturing and Structure, Organic Materials and Mechanical Properties and Processing.

Bachelor phase = gaining breadth + learning applications

After the completion of the basic and orientation phase, the material science lectures take up a large part in the bachelor phase. In addition, important general skills, such as presentation techniques, teamwork skills, English language skills, etc., are also emphasized. In addition, initial experience in a business environment is to be gained in the course of an industrial internship lasting three months. The bachelor's degree ends in the 6th semester with the completion of a bachelor's thesis.

    Faculty of Engineering
    Friedrich–Alexander University Erlangen–Nürnberg

When the Faculty of Engineering was founded in 1966, the FAU became the first German university to combine the offer of a classic full university with that of a technical university. Since then, the Faculty of Engineering has earned an outstanding national and international reputation. This can also be seen in the number of students: since the 2013/14 winter semester, it has employed more than 10,000 students at FAU. The faculty consists of five departments: chemical and bioengineering, electrical engineering - electronics - information technology, computer science, mechanical engineering and materials science. Their headquarters are on the southern site in Erlangen with further locations in Nuremberg and Fürth.
