The bachelor's degree provides mathematical knowledge closely related to applications in business, technology and nature. Graduates are enabled to understand such problems, to model them with mathematical methods, to analyze them, to solve them and to interpret them in a real context. The necessary knowledge in dealing with computers and software is imparted in the context of internships and lectures on computer science.

Описание программы обучения "Mathematics with Computer Science"
In the Bachelor's degree in mathematics with computer science, students are taught mathematical (basic) knowledge, knowledge of processes and techniques that are important in practice from mathematics and computer science, and the necessary methodological tools. The main focus is on mathematics with around 60% of the courses.
Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Mathematics with Computer Science"
A graduate of the course is in principle open to the traditionally broad professional field of mathematicians and computer scientists. This course of study enables early entry into professional life and a strong modularization in the course.
This allows the individual student to react flexibly to the situation on the job market as well as to his personal life situation. To make this clear, only some of the possible scenarios are outlined here:
- After completing a three-year bachelor's degree, student A has acquired sufficient knowledge about the use of mathematics and computer science, has finished his studies and is applying for a position in business. He may already have contacts with a company due to his project during his studies. In any case, given the current labor market situation and due to his low starting age, he has a good chance of a job.
- Student B is interested in completing part of his studies abroad. He receives a bachelor's degree at the University of Greifswald and then applies to a foreign university for a degree in mathematics or computer science to deepen his knowledge
- Student C is of the opinion that he would like to pursue an activity that requires prior knowledge of several subject areas. That is why he acquires a bachelor's degree in mathematics with computer science and then complements his training in the university or non-university area (knowledge of administration, personnel management, languages, business administration, ...).
- After 3 years of bachelor's degree, student D recognizes his particular inclination and ability to deal with tasks from mathematics and / or computer science, switches to the master’s degree in mathematics and then looks for a job in industrial or state-funded research.
Due to the rapid pace at which the labor market is currently changing nationally and internationally, many young people today find it difficult to decide on a degree with a standard period of study of nine or ten semesters, because it is simply impossible to foresee the job situation in five or six years at all.
The bachelor's degree meets the needs of these people. In conjunction with the master’s degree in mathematics, the generally required and necessary flexibility and differentiation in the training system can be increased. The short training period of the Bachelor is fully in line with the international trend and improves the career opportunities of the graduates on the European job market.
Ожидаемые результаты программы обучения "Mathematics with Computer Science"
The aim of the training is to equip the future Bachelor of Mathematics with Computer Science with such knowledge, skills and abilities that it can be used flexibly in scientific fields, business and technology as well as other areas and can communicate with representatives from other disciplines.
Учебный план программы обучения "Mathematics with Computer Science"
The standard period of study is 6 semesters. The course is divided into
- a basic part of the course (about 1st to 4th semester) and overlapping
- a practice-oriented part (about 3rd to 6th semester).
The total number of hours per week in the semester is around 120 SWS.
Goal of the training ...
... is to equip the future Bachelor of Mathematics with Computer Science with such knowledge, skills and abilities that it can be used flexibly in scientific fields, economics and technology as well as other areas and can communicate with representatives of other disciplines. In particular, he must be able to
- To formulate mathematical terms and facts exactly and to understand exact formulations correctly,
- select the appropriate methods and procedures from mathematics and computer science to solve a problem and use them properly.
In the Bachelor of Mathematics with Computer Science course, the student is provided with a mathematical (basic) knowledge, the knowledge for the practice of important processes and techniques from mathematics and computer science as well as the necessary methodological tools. The main focus of the training is on mathematics with around 70% of the courses.
Another aim of the training is to develop communication skills in the student.
In the basic part of the course the generally necessary basic knowledge of mathematics and computer science is imparted. The practice-oriented study part contains those sub-areas from mathematics and computer science that are of particular importance for the applications. In particular, the use of the computer to solve problems from business and technology should be studied intensively.
Subjects of the course
The following subjects are compulsory in the Bachelor of Mathematics with Computer Science course:
- Analysis,
- Linear Algebra and Analytical Geometry,
- Algorithms and programming,
- Practice of programming,
- Randomized algorithms,
- Theoretical computer science,
- Algebra,
- Stochastics,
- Numerics,
- Ordinary differential equations,
- Statistics,
- Optimization,
- Data structures and efficient algorithms
and studied 3 further subjects in the compulsory elective area. The training also includes an internship on computer algebra systems, a proseminar, a project-related seminar, a basic internship and a bachelor's thesis.
