Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Mechanical Engineering"

Due to the methodical training, many industries are disclosed to our graduates. Activities in research and development, production, marketing, sales and service of technical systems and products are just as open to you as managerial activities in industry, public administration or founding your own company.

In addition to general mechanical and plant engineering, you qualify for a career in energy and environmental technology, process engineering, the electrical and electronics industry, the automotive industry, medical technology, automation technology, aerospace and technical services such as the technical advice and planning in special fields. In addition, the successful Master's degree qualifies you for admission to a doctorate and increases your chances of doing interesting research and teaching and of achieving positions in management.

Ожидаемые результаты программы обучения "Mechanical Engineering"

The course should convey application-related content in particular, taking into account the general study goals (§ 58 HG NRW) on the basis of scientific findings and enable students to apply scientific and engineering methods, to develop practical solutions to problems and, in doing so, to observe extracurricular references and to carry out scientific research . The extensive mastery of the English language is the basis for the continuous deepening and expansion of technical language knowledge and therefore a prerequisite for mastering the course.

In addition, the aim of the course is for its graduates to use their technical skills to quickly and productively contribute to international industrial companies, to familiarize themselves with the methodological skills they have acquired in previously unknown tasks, to carry out targeted research, analysis and updating of the required specialist knowledge, their own Recognize limits and seek and design cooperation with interdisciplinary teams, help shape products, processes and procedures in terms of increasing efficiency and taking into account the careful use of finite resources, evaluate economic influencing factors and include them in the solution of tasks, new methods at a high level develop at a scientific level, analyze new tasks scientifically on the basis of their broad knowledge and solve them in a goal-oriented manner.

The master's program deliberately does not offer graduates any specialization in narrowly defined subject areas. Instead, the approach is to impart flexibly applicable technical and methodological knowledge, so that on the basis of this scientific training transfers to future questions are possible.

Another goal of the Mechanical Engineering master's program is the possibility of targeted specialization. Six elective packages are offered for this purpose, from which two packages can be chosen. Each elective package consists of several modules.

The learning content of the Mechanical Engineering course is derived from the requirements that industrial companies place on young engineers today. The focus is on a well-founded technical basis and the ability to solve scientifically well-founded, practical problems. A distinction is made between the following training phases:

  • Advanced technical basics (e.g. higher engineering mathematics, fluid mechanics, software development, structural analysis)
  • In-depth technical application subjects in the elective packages, which take up the advanced technical basic knowledge and relate it to application in various technical fields (e.g. mechatronics, drive systems)
  • Deepening of the organizational and social skills of the students (e.g. quality management and intellectual property, corporate management)
  • Continuous application of the knowledge and skills learned in internships and projects (e.g. internship machine tools, applied research project, master's thesis).

By completing the master’s degree, graduates have broad engineering knowledge based on current development trends, which enables them to work successfully in mechanical and plant engineering companies, to have a creative effect and to act entrepreneurially. This also includes the interdisciplinary skills (e.g. intercultural and interdisciplinary cooperation, project management), which are lived in the context of various events. Furthermore, the graduates have skills for scientific work, which allows them to continue and expand their scientific career (e.g. doctorate).

Учебный план программы обучения "Mechanical Engineering"

The Master's program offers numerous options, so that you can deepen content that corresponds to your inclinations and goals and at the same time sharpen your personal qualification profile.

Therefore, choose an elective package from clusters A and B, each with 3 modules and 9 SWS.

The "Applied Research Project" prepares you to successfully complete your master's thesis.

In addition to the electives, you will acquire basic skills in the compulsory subjects, regardless of your choice of specialization, that are important for your career as a mechanical engineer in all disciplines.

The Master's degree comprises 90 ECTS credits. Of these, 40 ECTS points are attributable to the subjects in the compulsory area, 26 ECTS points to the subjects in the elective packages and 24 ECTS points to the master's thesis and the colloquium.
