Mechatronics is considered a promising discipline with high growth potential. Thus, the job opportunities for graduates of this programme are very good – not least because they are presented with a large number of fields of occupation.

Mechatronics engineers are employed, for example, in the different sectors of machinery and plant engineering, the automotive and aviation industry or the electrical industry. There, they work in the areas of development, design, assembly, production, system design, quality assurance, as well as management. They are particularly qualified to hold executive positions due to their interdisciplinary knowledge and their ability to think systemically.

It is important to start early in the degree programme to gain practical work experience in relevant organisations. In this way students can promote themselves as competent professionals in practice and make important professional contacts. The likelihood of finding a good position is definitely heightened if the student is flexible when it comes to commuting or even moving abroad. Good English language skills are particularly important when it comes to the international job market.

Upon successful completion of a Master of Science degree, there is the opportunity to begin working towards a Ph.D. either at the TU Darmstadt or at another national or international university.

Through the Advanced Research Project, an internship, the internship module, and applied course, the programme is at the same time particularly practical and research-oriented. The programme offers the choice of many elective subjects and/or the selection of an area of specialisation. It is possible to do the internship abroad as well as spend entire semesters in a foreign country. For the setup of the personal examination and study plans, the integrated mentor system provides guidance and support.
