Учебный план программы обучения "Media and Communication Studies"

The BA degree in Media and Communication Studies prepares students for media professions in areas such as journalism, public relations, social media management and a postgraduate master’s degree. It gives a well-founded overview of the structures and actors in the modern, digitized media landscape. The course teaches fundamental theories as well as methods and techniques for analyzing digital and analog media and communication. In the course of study, the peculiarities of digital media environments and networked publics are theoretically reflected and the scientific basis for their empirical investigation is learned. The course also enables the acquisition of practical media skills. For this we work intensively with communication experts from professional practice.

The content of the course takes into account the formative development towards the digitization of public communication by productively combining approaches from the social sciences and humanities with content from the digital humanities. In this way, students benefit from a transdisciplinary perspective on the digital public. A particular strength of the new course is the diverse repertoire of methods - from qualitative image analysis, social science surveys to computational methods. For this purpose, project-oriented courses are planned in the advanced phase, in which there is enough time to theoretically reflect on questions and examine them in teamwork. A special feature of the Trier course is the cooperation with the subjects of computer linguistics and digital humanities. This enables the students to acquire additional skills in the areas of algorithms, programming and automated text and language analysis. Integrated elective modules can also be used to select events from subjects such as political science, business administration and business informatics.

In the bachelor's degree "Media and Communication Science" (core subject), you can choose from a large number of elective modules from the fields of business administration, (business) computer science, linguistics, sociology or political science. This enables every student to personalize their studies.
