The internet is rapidly becoming an indispensable platform for companies, public administrations and cultural institutions world-wide. Software developers in media and communications have a bright future in any organisation that relies on media-based products. This naturally includes software companies and video game developers, but also media companies in press, film and television. You can also continue your studies with a follow-on master‘s degree from the Faculty of Communication and Environment, for example ‘Usability Engineering’, ‘Information Engineering and Computer Science’ or ‘Digital Media’. Your first semester is dedicated to introducing you to the exciting fields of computer science and media. You’ll acquire a solid foundation in applied computer science and will build upon this foundation with new knowledge and skills in web development, visualisation, media technology and advanced interactive technology. This programme offers a range of emphasis areas in later semesters. If you’re interested in ‘traditional’ information technology, you might be drawn towards advanced courses in software development or media and computing. If you’re interested in alternative paths, you can instead explore 3D modelling and animation, game development and visualisation. Practical relevance is an extremely important part of this degree programme. Frequent project-based assignments, whether in small-groups or large teams, require you to tackle realistic challenges together with interdisciplinary teams of students from other bachelor‘s programmes in the Faculty of Communication and Environment. Your choice of electives, projects and eventually the sixth-semester internship or semester abroad will allow you to define your own emphasis area and pave the way to your desired career at companies in Germany or abroad.
