In our Media Engineering degree program, you will acquire engineering skills with a focus on applications in the media industry. Topics covered during your studies include IPTV, digital cinema, mobile TV, connected TV, studio technology, audio and video compression and vehicle environment recognition systems. You will learn how media technology systems work and how they can be further improved.

Media technology engineers develop software, program microprocessors, plan, analyze and monitor productions or the distribution of video signals over the Internet (IPTV). You design media technology for a new product in the automotive industry or lead a project for the introduction of new communication technology in a commercial enterprise. The chances on the job market are very good.

Fields of activity

Our graduates of the bachelor's degree in media technology are outstandingly qualified through their studies to take on demanding and creative engineering tasks in media and electrical engineering. Typical fields of activity are the technical planning, the design and implementation of hardware, software and technical systems, the maintenance and repair of devices and systems as well as the production and marketing.

Where do our graduates work?

These tasks are performed in different industries. In the Bachelor's degree in media technology, these include Radio and television stations, medium-sized companies in the areas of services and special developments in media technology, the electrical and media technology industry, automotive industry (e.g. multimedia in motor vehicles) and research institutions. In addition, an independent activity in the field of service in media technology is possible.

You complete the 16-week professional internship in the 7th semester in an industrial company.

Учебный план программы обучения "Media Engineering"

In the first part of the course, you acquire basic knowledge in the areas of mathematics, physics, electrical engineering and computer science.

The second part of the course is followed by a deepening into more specific subject areas of media technology with a focus on video, audio, studio and network areas. Specialization is made possible by offering an extensive catalog of options.

Subjects such as media law, business administration or project management complete the offer. In the 7th semester, practical work and the bachelor thesis conclude the course.

    In 2006, the Faculty of Engineering was re-established as an independent department at our university, in order to meet future requirements for a modern study.

    Due to the increasing intermeshing of individual disciplines such as natural sciences, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering, modern engineering today offers numerous opportunities at the interfaces of various technical disciplines. As a result of the growing interdisciplinary nature, the "classical" job descriptions are also changing towards new fields of activity. The new occupational requirements are characterized, on the one hand, by a convergence of science and technology and, on the other, by interdisciplinarity: If beneficial processes and technologies are to be developed on the basis of the latest scientific findings, individual technical disciplines must no longer be considered in isolation, but must intermesh. As a Department of Engineering we are committed to our goal to combine interdisciplinary and application-oriented development with the best teaching in modern Bachelor's and Master's programs.
