Программа обучения Media Informatics

Программа обучения "Media Informatics" в TH Mittelhessen University of Applied Sciences

Medieninformatik

Fascination of interactive worlds: media production, web & mobile, programming. A live stream of an event, an advertising clip in which the real and virtual worlds merge, a smartphone app, an interactive web application – all of these are examples of media informatics products. What are the similarities? On the surface, they ideally look elegant, flawless, colorful, appealing, interesting and uncomplicated. But behind the scenes is often the most modern and quite complicated technology of computer science. This characterizes media informatics - a combination of "technology" and "surface", of computer science and media.
Because only on the basis of the most modern computer technology is it possible to prepare, transmit and process data, texts, images and language in digital form.

Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Media Informatics"

Every media production and every development of an interactive application offers opportunities for media computer scientists. Therefore, the following examples outline possible professions. It can also be assumed that your own job description will change again during your studies due to the modules and practical phases offered. Your area of responsibility often changes during your professional life.

Web Agencies

In global networking through the Internet, media computer scientists work at the crucial interfaces; plan, update and maintain communication and information platforms for Web 2.0. Mobile platforms are increasingly coming to the fore here, so that the demand for app developers for smartphones is increasing rapidly.

media agencies

Depending on the focus and client, the range of products from a media agency is very large. Media IT specialists can make decisive contributions to all phases of such media productions. They prepare audio and video material or program 3D animations and create illustration graphics.

Education and training

Education and training is increasingly being supported by electronic media. Media IT specialists create the electronic basis for lifelong learning, develop e-learning systems, work out structures for databases to store and index the constantly growing knowledge.

Other options

Broad training means that media IT specialists can be used in any industry. They also find their jobs in the computer games industry, at TV stations and radio stations or in larger IT companies.

Many graduates also use the knowledge they have accumulated during their studies to set up their own company, be it as a web or software developer or in the field of IT services or IT consulting.

Quite a few graduates remain at the university, deepen their knowledge and skills in a master’s degree, perhaps do a doctorate and/or go into research and teaching.

Стажировки и практика в программе обучения "Media Informatics"

Many lectures are supplemented by exercises or internships. In laboratories with the appropriate technical equipment, students find modern software and hardware tools that they use intensively for exercises, internships, projects and theses. Based on a practical phase, which is typically completed in a company in the region, they gain further practical experience. The course is completed with the bachelor thesis, which can build on the practical phase.

Учебный план программы обучения "Media Informatics"

Media informatics is subject to rapid innovation cycles. In order to be able to start your professional life successfully and to remain successful, you need both: up-to-date, practice-relevant application knowledge and solid basics from a large area from media psychology to mathematics. The broad technical basic knowledge enables the graduates to adapt quickly to new technical developments and to face new challenges in their job.

In addition to the focus-specific application knowledge, the students acquire interdisciplinary knowledge and skills such as B. media law basics and economic key competences.

  • Computer science, especially software development
  • Mathematics and Physics
  • Media psychology and design

Soft skills

  • Legal basis
  • Project Planning
  • Communication
  • Economic key competences
  • English

Media production – unthinkable without a computer

No media production today can do without the use of computers and the associated software. The raw data recorded by technical devices, such as sound or video files, must be post-processed and adapted to the relevant playback or broadcast media. Advertising clips, computer games or feature films usually contain complex 2D or 3D animations that are created with the help of special programs.

Web and mobile applications - an indispensable part of our everyday life

Web applications are everywhere. Whether it's just a quick look at the weather report or following the news in social networks or working together on documents over the Internet, we do many things in our private and professional everyday life with the help of web applications these days. Designing and developing these requires diverse knowledge from areas such as design, programming, databases, marketing, Internet security and project management. Another aspect that can no longer be neglected today is the fact that the classic web applications for conventional desktop computers are gradually being replaced or supplemented by mobile variants - so-called apps - for smartphones and tablet PCs. When developing such apps, you have to know and take into account the special needs of mobile users.

The practice - communication between man and machine

Media IT specialists are the link between man and machine. What does that mean in practice? Most of the time, any kind of media production and application development is done in a team. A simple team usually consists of concept designers, graphic artists and technicians. The conceptual designers have ideas about design and customer requirements. The graphic artists are draftsmen or designers. However, both groups need someone who makes their work possible in the first place. Media IT specialists are in demand here. They do the necessary (programming) technical work, build tools, adapt programs or integrate the work of others into the technology in such a way that it can be used by the end user. This work is very creative, because it's about finding a perfect technical solution for the wishes of others.
