In the course of your studies, you will deal with events and processes that influenced China in the 20th and 21st centuries and the historical development of the country, which made China's return to the top of the world possible in the first place. For this purpose, access via various humanities and social science methods are used. In Freiburg, you benefit in particular from our renowned teaching staff, the international orientation of the course and the interdisciplinary opportunities that are only available to you at a large university like Freiburg.

In the first two semesters, you will attend seminars on various political, economic or cultural topics in Chinese society as well as a method seminar. The critical examination of the current circumstances in China is encouraged. In addition, you will attend language and reading exercises based on original Chinese sources to improve your language skills. Courses are offered at two different levels.

In the second semester you also decide whether you

  • participate in a research project,
  • do an internship or
  • Teach a self-contained exercise or tutorial.
