Описание программы обучения "Musicology (with Additional Artistic Qualification)"

Artistic and scientific studies complement each other in this way to form a comprehensive music-related bachelor's degree. The course is the responsibility of the University of Paderborn and is carried out in cooperation with the Hochschule für Musik Detmold. The artistic-musical course at the conservatory accounts for about a quarter of the course. The main part is formed by musicology and music theory courses on the history of music from antiquity to the present day, on musicology work, set theory and analysis as well as on the diverse cultural and systematic fields of musicology. Another special feature of the course is the high proportion of practice-related practice in the form of project work, internships and courses on (digital) editing, presentation and mediation techniques. The wide range of courses offered by the musicology seminar, the University of Paderborn and the University of Music opens up extensive options for interest-based, individual studies, and there are very good opportunities to spend a semester abroad.

The six-semester course ends with a bachelor's thesis in musicology and qualifies for a wide range of music and culture-related professional fields as well as for taking up a relevant master's degree.

A bachelor's degree in musicology is also possible in combination with a second cultural studies subject instead of the additional artistic qualification; see two-subject Bachelor with a major in musicology.

The specialist knowledge, skills and methods imparted during the course prepare you for a wide range of activities related to music. As a graduate you work e.g. B. in the cultural field: in music and cultural journalism, at a theater, in music management, in a label, in publishing houses, but also in PR and marketing departments. Of course, all of this is also possible internationally. Your artistic training and your own music experience is an additional plus for your entry into music-related professions up to the field of music practice. Учебный план программы обучения "Musicology (with Additional Artistic Qualification)"

Music is almost ubiquitous, and it is always embedded in contexts. Musicology is therefore concerned with all types of music, with music as practice, music as art, music as meaning, music as text and much more.

Studying in the Detmold bachelor's degree in musicology combines academic work with music in all its diversity and artistic training in the form of instrumental or vocal lessons, possibly also conducting or composition / music theory. The analysis of compositions or recordings is just as important as the critical examination of social functions of music, cultural-historical contexts, with composers, interpreters and recipients. Why is music history told how? How do practical music practice and academic study of music mutually fertilize one another? In which political context is an opera embedded? Which musical, textual, media, physical and cultural levels interact so well in a musical performance that certain readings or meanings arise? In order to be able to answer these and many other questions appropriately, you will acquire broad specialist knowledge and extensive methodological skills in dealing with music. Artistic and scientific

In this way, studies complement each other to form a nationwide unique, comprehensive music-related bachelor's degree.
