Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Nutritional Science"

The master’s degree in nutritional science provides you with the necessary theoretical knowledge, methods and practical skills to conduct independent scientific research in the field of experimental nutritional science.

Future fields of work are available to you in the research and development departments of universities, non-university institutions, clinics, authorities or industry. Further areas of activity open up to you in the field of quality control, in the media, in adult education, in international organizations and politics, in the Third World (e.g. as a development worker), in administration or in the field of health care and aftercare.

However, you also have the option of continuing your academic education with a doctorate in the directly subsequent fast-track doctoral program. It is also possible to do your own doctorate, e.g. in cooperation with a (non-)university research institute or a clinical facility involved in this course.

Учебный план программы обучения "Nutritional Science"

In this master's program you will deal with biochemical, cell and molecular biological methods for quantifying metabolic processes. You deal with instrumental food analysis, pathobiochemical, pathophysiological and toxicological relationships between nutrition and disease and the effects of ingredients in plant and animal foods on health. Other focal points are the interactions between the intestinal microbiota and the host, smell and taste perception and nutritional epidemiology. The large elective area gives you the opportunity to tailor your studies to your interests.

You will also complete an eight-week course internship in which you will work on scientific projects and apply experimental nutritional methods. Appropriate courses teach you the theoretical basics.

The master's course builds on the bachelor's degree in nutritional science, is divided into modules and lasts 4 semesters, including the master's thesis.

Modules

In the 1st year

  • Special biochemistry and pathobiochemistry of nutrition
  • Special physiology and pathophysiology of nutrition and energy metabolism
  • Special and Molecular Nutritional Toxicology
  • Special food chemistry
  • Gastrointestinal Microbiology
  • Molecular Sensors
  • Nutritional epidemiology
  • Course block internship: teaching methods relevant to nutritional science
  • = 38 credit points
  • Two freely selectable directional modules, each with a 6-week research internship and associated theoretical parts
  • = 22 credit points

In the 2nd year

  • Specialization module with practical and theoretical courses freely selectable from those offered by the university and the DIfE
  • = 15 credit points
  • Preparatory module for the master's thesis in which special practical and theoretical knowledge necessary for the completion of the master's thesis is acquired
  • = 15 credit points
  • Experimental master thesis
  • = 30 credit points

Fast track promotion phase

Following the master's degree, admission to a fast-track doctoral program is possible. Within this framework, you will earn 180 credit points, of which 90 credit points will be credited from the Master's degree. The doctoral program is also open to external applicants who have completed a comparable master's degree at another university.
