Pharmacy is an interdisciplinary science that deals with the nature, effect, development, testing, manufacture and delivery of active ingredients and drugs. Pharmacy combines aspects from various natural sciences, especially chemistry, biology and physics, with medical topics.
The students learn to work on complex and current interdisciplinary problems in pharmaceutical drug research using scientific methods. The course imparts the necessary specialist knowledge, skills and methods that enable scientific work, the application and critical classification of scientific findings and responsible behavior.

Pharmacy is the central discipline within the molecular life sciences that deals with the development, manufacture, effect, use and other aspects of pharmaceuticals, taking into account the relevant subjects from the field of gender and diversity. Pharmacy is an interdisciplinary subject and deals with all questions about drugs in its five sub-disciplines, pharmaceutical / medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical biology, clinical pharmacy, pharmacology / toxicology and pharmaceutical technology. The master’s course in Pharmaceutical Research is an innovative course in the life sciences with a focus on modern pharmaceutical research. So far, the course has only been offered in Germany at the Free University of Berlin. In an excellent scientific environment, the master’s program prepares in a special way for research and development work in the pharmaceutical industry or at scientific institutions. The study program offers a current research focus, interdisciplinary courses at the interfaces of modern drug development and the involvement of experts from pharmaceutical practice.
The course imparts the ability to independently familiarize yourself with scientific problems. Researching the current state of knowledge is part of the scientific work in the modules. Using oral and written presentations and elaborations, problems, approaches to solutions and results are presented and critically discussed. Subject of the course are also controversial discussions of methods and research results. Gender and diversity aspects are taken into account where the respective topic makes this appear appropriate, especially when working in the predominantly international research groups of the Institute of Pharmacy.

The Institute for Chemistry and Biochemistry focuses on structure formation, function and chemical reactivity, stereoselective and macromolecular synthesis, molecular and medical biochemistry and structural biochemistry.
The Institute for Pharmacy is the largest pharmaceutical training facility in Germany. Teaching and research take place in the fields of pharmaceutical biology, pharmaceutical chemistry, clinical pharmacy, pharmacology and pharmaceutical technology.

After the selection interviews have been completed, a ranking list for the selection in accordance with admission regulation is created on the basis of the results obtained. For the formation of the ranking list, the grade of the degree according to § 3 Paragraph 1 (final grade - AN) is weighted to six tenths (60%) and the grade for the interview (interview grade - GN) to four tenths (40%) and according to the following Formula calculated to one decimal place: 0.6 * AN + 0.4 * GN. If there is equality of rank after the ranking list has been created, the ranking is determined in accordance with § 8a BerlHZG.
