Программа обучения "Physics" в University of Potsdam

Physik

Physics is the fundamental science of nature. Phenomena on the atomic level up to cosmic dimensions are traced back to a few principles. Many extraordinarily exciting research areas are developing within this specialist culture, which are also influencing more and more neighboring disciplines. The rapid technical progress in micro, nano and biotechnology, in medical technology, laser physics and the use of solar energy is often based on physical knowledge.

Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Physics"

Our modern civilization is based on science and technology. Accordingly, physicists are needed in the most diverse areas of society - in scientific research at universities and research institutes; in the research and development departments of companies, especially in the field of high technology and information technology; in conveying science to the media and the public. Due to the skills they acquired during their studies in analytical thinking and computer-aided problem solving, physics graduates often work in apparently unrelated areas such as banking or management, administration and politics.

Ожидаемые результаты программы обучения "Physics"

In the Physics bachelor's degree, you will acquire all the mathematical, physical-analytical and practical skills that are necessary for starting a professional activity or for a master's degree in physics. The focus is on recognizing physical principles with which phenomena, processes or states are determined. The graduates have a broad basic knowledge of physics and master the basic methods and ways of thinking of physics. They are able to create physical models, to analyze them conceptually and, if necessary, to test them experimentally.

Учебный план программы обучения "Physics"

On the one hand, physics is about exploring and understanding the principles and laws that nature obeys from the largest to the smallest dimensions. On the other hand, extremely complex systems are examined, which can result from the interaction of simple basic principles. The description and calculation of physical relationships is carried out with the help of mathematical methods.

Therefore, at the beginning of the bachelor's degree, the focus is on mathematics in addition to experimental physics, laboratory practicals and theoretical physics. During your studies, you will learn the basic methods and ways of thinking in physics. Among other things, you will deal with the most important basics of classical mechanics, electricity, magnetism, electrodynamics as well as radiation and wave optics, quantum mechanics, the structure of matter, thermodynamics, atomic, nuclear and elementary particle physics.

Further focal points include mastering basic methods of experimental work and acquiring theoretical and practical knowledge of electronics and computer-aided process control, data acquisition, processing and analysis.

In the fifth semester you choose one of the specializations:

  • Condensed Matter Physics
  • Astrophysics
  • Nonlinear Dynamics
  • Photonics and quantum optics including elementary particle theory
  • Climate Physics

At the end of the course, a bachelor's thesis is written, which is supervised by a professorship at the Institute for Physics and Astronomy or at one of the cooperating research institutes.

Факультет

Faculty of Science
University of Potsdam

The Faculty of Science is the largest of the five faculties at the University of Potsdam. The majority of its departments are located in the Science Park in Potsdam-Golm. The Faculty of Science maintains close collaborative relationships with extramural research institutions in the Potsdam region in the form of joint professorships and numerous projects. These partnerships cover a broad spectrum from basic research to application-oriented research. The faculty also has cooperative relationships with several research institutions throughout Germany and the entire world. Over 80 professors teach and research at the faculty. They supervise almost 6,000 students and doctoral candidates.
