Описание программы обучения "Plastic, Major in Ceramics"

A good vessel can be a good plastic. In the study of ceramics at the BURG, the unique vessel, the object, the ceramic sculpture and the installation are of equal importance.

Working with ceramic materials is the focus of the course, including the combination with other materials. The contents grow with the capacity of the form. The modeling of the material is examined and critically questioned in terms of its expression and its plastic value.

The study of ceramics should make you want to take on challenges and stimulate discussion among the students and beyond. The aim is for talents and abilities to manifest themselves in personal positions and in individual artistic attitudes.

The goal of sculptural work is to bring material into form in such a way that it carries content in a convincing and natural way. Creating the form that carries the content is play and dialogue, work and chance, break and enjoyment, concentration and distance - is possibility and discovery.

In the ceramics course, clay is the raw material for this experiment with an increasing challenge and an open result. We go deep and start at the source. Rotational symmetry is inherent in ceramic history and simplifies the form into a silhouette. Twisted bodies can function as a vessel and question habit. A good vessel can be a good plastic.
The focus of the course is on the various ways of creating a form and making its potential meaningful in one's own work. The modeling of the material is examined in its expression, in its plastic value. The content grows with the wealth of the form. A project gives the impetus for starting work, on the way it is important to pay attention to unexpectedly successful extensions or necessary changes of direction. The finale also takes place in its entirety or in combination with other materials.

A sculpture is a peculiarity that arises when trying to establish an idea in a material in space. When working, the material offers a productive resistance in comparison to the idea and feeling. By translating an inner image into material, it gains a physical life of its own as a counterpart and enables a distance from which insights arise.

Teaching in the ceramics course aims to promote the personal artistic development of the students between the directed experiment and the self-confident checking of the result.
