The Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Science at the TU Dresden sees its discipline as an empirical human science with a scientific, experimental orientation. The programme provides students with scientific findings on human perception, learning, reasoning, remembering, feeling, and motivation as well as with information on neuronal and hormonal control of human behaviour, human development, and several other fields.
The course of study consists of twenty-one mandatory modules, among them statistics, psychological assessment, experimental psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, biopsychology, etc., and two mandatory electives, English and interdisciplinary work. Furthermore, students write a bachelor thesis and complete a six-week professional internship.

A Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree enables you to complete a wide range of tasks in line with the overall qualifications acquired during your studies after appropriate training in professional practice.
In order to be able to work as a psychologist (M.Sc.) in accordance with international standards, a master's degree is a useful specialization.
Psychology graduates can find employment in a wide variety of fields. The spectrum ranges from private practice, to work in public counseling centers and clinics, in business and administration, to research and teaching.
Psychologists usually work as employees or become self-employed and offer their services or products on the open market.

In the bachelor's degree in psychology, basic knowledge of human experience and behavior is acquired. Scientific knowledge of human perception, learning, thinking, remembering, feeling, and human motivation is imparted. The neuronal and hormonal control of behavior, regular differences between people, human experience and behavior in their social environment, and human development over the lifespan are also the subject of teaching in Dresden.
The basic knowledge acquired is implemented and deepened in various applied subjects of psychology. Basic knowledge of research methods and diagnostics is also acquired.
The teaching in the Faculty of Psychology imparts general qualifications in the following areas: self-management, scientific thinking and working, communicating and presenting work results, and working with others, among others.
The course is modular and, in addition to the various courses, includes an orientation and professional internship as well as the bachelor's thesis. It is possible to complete the orientation internship before starting the course. The orientation internship is not an admission criterion for the Bachelor's degree in Psychology at TU Dresden. Recognition can only be granted after the start of the course. Therefore, please check the criteria listed carefully.
The examinations are taken during the course of study. The total workload for the course corresponds to 180 credit points (ECTS) including the Bachelor's thesis. The course comprises 18 compulsory modules and a study focus. You can choose between the study focus of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (this enables you to take up a Master's degree course in accordance with the Licensing Regulations for Psychotherapists (PsychThApprO)) and the study focus of Psychological Practice Fields and Research.
