The bachelor's degree in psychology leads to a first professional qualification. It includes extensive methodological training (research methods, statistics and data analysis), training in the basic areas, which deal with perception and memory processes, learning and emotions, as well as the biopsychological foundations of human behavior and experience. Furthermore, questions of personality and the development of individuals in different cultures and age groups as well as the behavior and attitudes of groups are examined. Other areas taught in the bachelor's degree are diagnostic methods and the applied subjects of disorder theory, general procedural theory of psychotherapy, preventive and rehabilitative concepts of psychotherapeutic action as well as the basics of educational psychology and work and organizational psychology. Other important training content includes the research internship and the job-related internships as well as the bachelor's thesis.
The bachelor's degree in psychology was designed on the basis of the licensing regulations and contains all the licensing-relevant content provided for in the bachelor's degree.

The bachelor's degree qualifies you for routine psychological tasks, for example in the field of clinical diagnostics and professional aptitude diagnostics, the design and evaluation of work equipment and activities and their organization, as well as for health or personnel psychology interventions. In addition, the six-semester bachelor's degree program is the standard admission requirement for master's studies. The broad coverage of the relevant basic and applied subjects allows maximum flexibility for the choice of a subsequent master's degree program.

The examination regulations do not stipulate a compulsory stay abroad. However, stays abroad are possible at numerous European and non-European universities as part of various exchange programs.

Students in the Bachelor's degree program in Psychology acquire sound methodological skills and broad knowledge of the theoretical foundations required for describing, explaining, predicting and shaping human experience and behavior, regardless of their specialization. These include the basics of perception and cognitive psychology, learning, emotion and motivation psychology, supplemented by the neurobiological foundations of human experience and behavior, the theoretical foundations of development and the ability to describe, explain and predict development processes. In addition, the relevant theories and the current state of research in social and personality psychology and their application to everyday phenomena are taught. The design and structure of the polyvalent bachelor's degree program gives students the opportunity to get to know the various fields of application of psychology before choosing their specialization.
The applied subjects include:
- Disorder theory: This describes the prevalence, causes and consequences of mental disorders and provides an overview of the most important disorders. Furthermore, relevant theoretical perspectives and basics of diagnostics and classification are covered.
- General procedural theory of psychotherapy: This covers the effectiveness and applicability of scientifically tested and recognized psychotherapeutic procedures and methods.
- Preventive and rehabilitative concepts of psychotherapeutic action: This is about behavior- and relationship-oriented prevention, intervention and rehabilitation concepts.
- Basics of educational psychology and digital media: This module deals with actors in education, questions of lesson planning, classroom management and social forms of teaching. In addition, theories of educational psychology are taught on dealing with digital media in general and on teaching and learning with interactive media.
- Fundamentals of work and organizational psychology: Here, students are taught which factors from a psychological perspective need to be taken into account for the prediction, description and explanation of human behavior and experience in the world of work in order to be able to make well-founded decisions about interventions in organizations or the design of work and to implement them in practical action.
In the elective area, the content from the applied subjects is then deepened. One of the three areas must be chosen here:
- Clinical psychology and psychotherapy
- Work and organizational psychology
- Educational psychology and digital media

Osnabrück UniversityThe School of Human Sciences comprises Health Sciences (German), Cognitive Science, Philosophy (German) and Psychology. Thanks to the diverse interfaces between these disciplines, teaching and research contexts can be enhanced and research priorities perfected. This is the case for Health Sciences and Psychology, for example, where intersections are primarily found in Clinical Psychology and Emotional Psychology – in addition to the largely convergent empirical/methodological tools applied. Cognitive Science and Health Sciences demonstrate intersections in Neurobiopsychology, so far primarily considered from a perspective of basic theory, or in specific parts of experimental studies/developments of information and communication technology support systems; Cognitive Science and Psychology, on the other hand, are linked by Personality Psychology and Neurobiopsychology, which are closely related to cognition. The traditional and more contemporary disciplines represented in Philosophy build a bridge to all of the School’s departments when questions are posed concerning ethics in health care culminating in questions concerning the mind and consciousness. Hence the departments of the School of Human Sciences, featuring a vast array of characteristics, are well connected and visible not only amongst themselves, but also within the rest of the University and outside it, thanks to their innovative approaches and the interdisciplinary research conducted.
