Программа обучения Quantitative Molecular Biology

Программа обучения "Quantitative Molecular Biology" в Humboldt University of Berlin

Quantitative Molecular Biology

Students of this international, research-oriented Masters's program learn and apply modern molecular techniques and methods of cell biology. A particular focus lies on the quantitative analysis of molecules and cells aided by mathematical and theoretical concepts. Within the first year of the program, students attend several compulsory and elective modules that advance their competencies in the fields of Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Plant Sciences, Infectionbiology, Cell biology and Immunology. The second year is research-oriented, including a study project and the final Master Thesis.

Учебный план программы обучения "Quantitative Molecular Biology"

The consecutive Master's program consists of compulsory (75 credits), elective (30 credits) and interdisciplinary elective modules (15 credits). During the first year, students attend three compulsory modules ('Molecular Biology', 'Quantitative Molecular Biology' and 'Scientific English for Publications and Presentations') and two elective modules out of four modules offered. In the research-oriented second year, students conduct a study project and proceed to the final module, the Master Thesis.

Students acquire a total of 30 credits, which corresponds to two elective modules (15 credits each) to be selected from the following offer:

  • QMB 6 Molecular Microbiology
  • QMB 7 From Molecules to Compartments
  • QMB 8 Molecular and Cellular Immunology
  • QMB 9 Epigenetics and Developmental Programs

Study Project / Master Thesis

A group or individuals work on a scientific project that has to be related to the theoretical and experimental topics of this Master's program. The study project extends over one or two semesters and comprises several hours of experimental work and a protocol. Scientific projects can be conducted at the Department of Biology or an associated research organization, for instance, at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine. Students apply autonomously to research groups of their field of interest. For further information on the modalities of the Study Project, please contact the Examination Office Biology/Biophysics.

Within the Final Module, students use their specific knowledge in a current research topic in the field of Molecular Biology, planning and conducting a scientific project at current research standards independently, and writing the Master Thesis.

ÜWP - Interdisciplinary Elective Modules

Students are free to attend modules of the Interdisciplinary Elective Area (ÜWP) in other disciplines or institutions of the university according to their own preferences. The modules offered in this sector are posted on AGNES - ÜWP. Under certain circumstances, it is possible to attend regular modules of other programs (Non-ÜWP-Modules). If you are interested in attending Non-ÜWP-Modules, please contact the Examination Office Biology/Biophysics for detailed information.

    Faculty of Life Sciences
    Humboldt University of Berlin

The Faculty of Life Sciences aims to strengthen life science research and teaching at the Humboldt University in Berlin and in the Berlin area and to anchor it in the regional, national and international research landscape in a forward-looking manner. The faculty is dedicated to current and future-oriented scientific, technological and social topics from the entire spectrum of life forms: from the molecular building block to the microbial, plant, animal and human organism, as well as their interactions with the living and environment. It primarily follows a scientific approach, which is supplemented by an economic perspective. There are also connections to the humanities and social sciences as well as to medicine. Research and teaching activities aim at scientific excellence, interdisciplinary and internationality. Particular attention is paid to partnership-based cooperation, the promotion of young scientists and the inclusion of members of disadvantaged groups.
