Программа обучения Social Work – Focus on Health Promotion and Prevention

Программа обучения "Social Work – Focus on Health Promotion and Prevention" в Kempten University of Applied Science

Soziale Arbeit - Schwerpunkt Gesundheitsförderung und Prävention

The Kempten University of Applied Sciences has developed two new courses in the field of Health and Generations that train urgently needed specialists, not least for the Allgäu health region. Keeping people healthy until old age is an individual and at the same time social task that does not only affect the older generation. It begins before birth and runs through life. Every phase of life and every area of life holds special opportunities and risks. Reducing the risks and seizing the opportunities is not the sole task of medicine and health professionals, but also a core area of social work. The promotion of health and the prevention of diseases are a cross-sectional task of social pedagogical action - both in the field of health-related social work and in fields that at first glance are not related to health. Social work also reaches people outside the health care structures, even when there is (still) no illness. This requires qualified socio-pedagogical staff who understand health as a cross-sectional task and have the appropriate skills. The Kempten University of Applied Sciences has therefore set up a bachelor's degree in social work with a focus on health promotion and prevention.

Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Social Work – Focus on Health Promotion and Prevention"

With the completion of this course, a wide range of professional fields is offered. All areas are open that require a university degree in social work or social pedagogy. This also applies expressly to those occupational fields that are not clearly related to health. The abundance of professional fields in social work without obvious health relevance is so large that it can only be outlined here in brief. It includes the social services of local authorities, facilities and services for child and youth welfare, open child and youth work, youth vocational and youth court assistance, school career and school social counseling, work with people with disabilities, housing and job offers for people with disabilities, rehabilitation measures, Advisory services for the providers of free welfare, neighborhood and community work, probation assistance, adult education, leisure education, debt counseling, corporate social work, development cooperation and work with people with a migration background or with people on the run.

In addition to this broad qualification, graduates are particularly qualified for all areas of health-related social work: In the municipal area, this applies, for example, to the social services of the health authorities, most of the areas of the social services (e.g. AIDS prevention, addiction prevention, pregnancy counseling, home supervision) , psychosocial care, job seekers, senior citizens' help), sports, school and youth welfare offices, all areas of senior citizens' work (e.g. senior citizens' representatives, overall concepts for senior citizens), working with self-help groups, the work of health conferences and health regions as well as the public health service, local health policy and health reporting. Significant areas of counseling and support services provided by independent or church charities are also clearly health-related.

A large field of activity within health-related social work is social work in the health system, which is the second largest employer for social workers after youth welfare. In general, this includes the clinical social services of all clinics and treatment facilities, in particular outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation clinics and health clinics, because - unlike in acute care clinics - apart from medical and therapeutic care, reintegration into professional and private life and dealing with (possibly new) chronic illness or disability is an essential part of the treatment. As specialized clinical services, early intervention and social pediatrics, addiction prevention, psychiatry, oncology, hospice work and palliative care, as well as geriatrics, require particularly strong support from social work.

In addition to the clinics, service providers for outpatient and inpatient care as well as facilities for people with disabilities represent a comprehensive field of activity, where they are used in particular in social care and advice, family and network work as well as in care and case management. There are also corresponding occupational fields in the education sector, such as health education in kindergartens and schools, at adult education centers or with independent educational institutions, as well as in teaching at (vocational) technical schools and vocational academies.

Finally, a broad and - not least against the background of the Prevention Act that came into force in 2015 - a growing range of primarily health-related occupational fields should be mentioned, for which the combination of health and social work expertise will be a sought-after qualification, for example in the prevention and health promotion area of health insurance companies and insurers, with service providers in the healthcare industry and in corporate healthcare. There is also a wide range of non-municipal authorities and offices, as well as foundations and associations with health and social relevance.

Учебный план программы обучения "Social Work – Focus on Health Promotion and Prevention"

The course is structured in the same way as other courses in social work and is based on the requirements of the nationwide qualification framework for social work at the Social Work Department Day. The structure (module matrix) of the course is characterized by a systematic and step-by-step structure of module areas with related content. In addition, the semesters can be summarized in comprehensive study sections with a common content bracket:

  1. Foundation: Theoretical foundation and application-oriented knowledge and skills for the entire range of social work (semester 1–3)
  2. Practical competence : action concepts and reflected action experience (semesters 4–5)
  3. Exemplary specialization: Individual and structural health and generational work (semesters 6–7)

This structure reflects the complexity of (health-related) social work and its reference sciences and is at the same time geared towards intelligibility and studyability. It is intended to make it easier for students to orientate themselves during their studies and to clarify content-related relationships beyond module and semester boundaries. From a formal point of view, the course is structured according to the study and examination regulations into a basic course of generalized form, which comprises the first three semesters, and a more action-related in-depth study, which covers the last four semesters.

We strongly emphasise conducting applied research. Our teaching carves innovative pathways, nurturing interfaces with other faculties and training students in line with state-of-the-art research. In our AAL Living Lab, a teaching and research apartment for people (starting to be) in need of support, we trial complex assistance systems for living with impairments. Our Institute of Health and Generations (IGG) bridges the gap between research and practice in social work by combining innovative teaching and practice-based learning with consultancy services and analyses for social facilities and local authorities in its Social Lab.
