The technical biology Bachelor’s study program presents an interdisciplinary profile combining biology and technology that is unique in Germany. The studies concentrate on current, globally relevant challenges in research and industry. Modern biosciences, physics and chemistry (especially biochemistry and technical biochemistry) work closely with engineering-, materials-, and systems sciences and bioprocess engineering.
Numerous research-related laboratory exercises as well as sojourns in industry and abroad ensure a high degree of practical relevance. The study program is in great demand and well reputed in research and business.

Our students are encouraged to participate in internships and studies abroad, which can be carried out in companies and various institutions for practical work experience or at universities around the world. This includes the B.Sc. Final thesis in collaboration with research teams in Stuttgart, with numerous international partners available. Courses and examinations are for the B.Sc. credited. in technical biology. The International Center IZ and the study advisors support you with planning, organization, creation of learning agreements and certificates as well as accreditation.
30-40 ECTS can be acquired in a typical stay abroad, ideally in the 4th and 5th B.Sc. degree programs. Expression. In addition to their own preferences, the ERASMUS partner universities of all faculties accept students from our degree program for financially supported international studies. Experience reports from project work and studies abroad are available from the Technical Biology course director.

The focus of the first semesters is on a broad scientific education, supplemented by bioinformatics and bioprocess engineering. In addition to the natural sciences, an interface to the engineering sciences is being built. Emphasis is placed on a high practical component: modules usually include practical laboratory exercises in addition to lectures and seminars.
From the 4th semester onwards, students are involved in current research, brought into contact with scientific publications and learn to critically analyze and evaluate scientific data. The focus here is on biomedical, biotechnological and materials science topics.

University of StuttgartFaculty 4 encompasses the fields of Energy-, Process- and Bio-Engineering and co-operates with Faculty 7, the second faculty for Mechanical Engineering in the fields Engineering Design, Production Engineering and Automotive Engineering.

Technical Biology B.Sc. is restricted (NC). The study places are allocated based on the university selection process according to the following criteria. You must upload the evidence to the campus management portal C@MPUS during the application process:
School selection criteria:
The sum of the points achieved in the Abitur certificate is divided: for Abitur certificates with a maximum possible score of 900 points, it is divided by 30, for Abitur certificates with a maximum possible score of 840 points, it is divided by 28 (max. 30 points).
Other selection criteria (maximum 30 points in total)
- Completed vocational training in one of the following occupations: Biological-technical. Assistant (BTA), chemical engineering. Assistant (CTA), medical-technical. Assistant (MTA), physical-technical. Assistant (PTA) or
- Previous professional practice relevant to the course of study (even without completed training) (maximum 10 points),
- relevant internship or practical activities (maximum 10 points)
- Other skills and abilities that can provide particular information about suitability for the course of study (e.g. awards) (maximum 10 points).
