World Heritage Studies

The international Master’s programme World Heritage Studies provides the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to identify, protect, manage and present cultural and natural heritage sites. Students are encouraged to reflect upon how heritage is understood and how it functions in societies all around the world. The programme combines theory and practice in a cross-sectorial way, incorporating various academic disciplines such as the humanities, architecture, conservation, ecology, management, tourism, marketing and beyond. It thus emphasizes the link between culture and nature, tangible and intangible heritage values, conservation and sustainable development.

Стажировки и практика в программе обучения "World Heritage Studies"

Students are highly encouraged to seek out and apply for voluntary internships at heritage-related institutions during the course of their studies. Internships normally last 3 to 6 months (variations based on circumstances), which is typically best scheduled after the first year of studies. Internships are not a requirement of the programme and are dependent upon the interests and focus of each individual student.

Given the World Heritage Studies programme’s extensive network of institutional partners, internship opportunities in organisations around the world may be communicated to students if and when they are available. Additionally, students realize their own internship opportunities, aided by the experience of their peers and a large network of alumni.

Examples of institutions where WHS students completed their internships in the past include, but are not limited to:

  • UN, UNESCO and Advisory Organisations: UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Paris; UNESCO
  • Regional Offices (Bangkok, New Delhi, Montevideo); UNWTO, Madrid; UN – HABITAT, Nairobi;
  • ICCROM, Rome;
  • World Heritage Sites;
