Wirtschaftsinformatik - Informationsmanagement (Business Information Systems)

Business informatics is an interdisciplinary subject that combines concepts of business and economics with computer science. The master's degree in business informatics at the MLU is a consecutive, predominantly research-oriented course. The aim is to support students in developing a critical and integrated view of business information methods and tools and their possible uses. Graduates are thus able to work successfully in management positions in a company or an administration and to design, develop and use computer-aided processes and systems as decision-makers.

Modern information systems in companies, public administration and private households are becoming increasingly efficient and are experiencing a rapidly increasing network. Web applications such as Google, YouTube, Facebook and eBay as well as constant multimedia accessibility are an integral part of everyday life and offer a wide range of options for new, innovative business models. Studying business informatics gives you the key skills to actively help shape this challenging environment and thus opens up a broad and growing professional field.

Graduates of the master's program in business informatics are in demand as executives (e.g. as chief information officer), IT specialists and IT managers in companies, in system and software houses as well as management consultancies. You are able to

  • analyze business processes and optimize them with IT support,
  • to develop architectures and concepts for innovative information and communication systems as well as
  • to plan and manage their implementation and integration into existing IT systems.

The fields of competence of business informatics include, for example, the development of innovative online platforms, the design and optimization of globally networked business processes or the implementation of modern application systems.

In addition, the research-oriented orientation of the course is an excellent prerequisite for a scientific career, e.g. B. in the form of a subsequent doctorate.

Stays abroad are expressly permitted and recommended. They can take place at one of the partner universities of the MLU or at a foreign university chosen by the students themselves. The recognition of the work to be performed abroad is clarified in advance of the stay abroad and recorded in a learning agreement.

An internship related to business informatics in business or administration is desirable with regard to starting a career after graduation, but is not part of the course. It is possible to combine an internship with a practice-oriented master's thesis.

  • 1.1. Elective Business Information Technology: Research aspects of information systems I-IV, soft computing, decision support systems / management support systems
  • 1.2. Elective Project Seminar: Project seminar on web engineering; Applied optimization and simulation; Information and business process management
  • 1.3. Elective area seminar: seminar e-business, seminar information management, seminar WI and OR
II. Elective Computer Science
incl. Data mining, database design, digital media, concepts of higher programming languages, computer engineering, translator construction, XML and databases
III. Department of Economics and Empirical Methods
incl. Application projects, aspects of empirical economics, survey techniques, evaluation procedures, multivariate procedures, estimation and testing
IV. Department of Business Administration
incl. Sales Theory, Procurement Marketing, Business Plan Smeinar, Controlling, Trade Management, Trade Marketing, Capital Market Theory, Operations Management, Knowledge Management
