The Mas­ters pro­gram­me in Cul­tu­ral Sci­en­ces – Cul­tu­re, Arts and Me­dia com­bi­nes over­lap­ping is­su­es from cul­tu­ral sci­en­ces and cul­tu­ral theo­ry with an ex­ten­si­ve ori­en­ta­ti­on and spe­cia­li­sa­ti­on in va­rious di­sci­pli­nes and sub­ject are­as re­le­vant to cul­tu­ral sci­en­ces. Stu­dents and teachers with dif­fe­rent di­sci­pli­na­ry back­ground work to­ge­ther in an in­ter­di­sci­pli­na­ry en­vi­ron­ment cha­rac­te­ri­sed by in­ten­si­ve re­se­arch on is­su­es which are in­tro­duc­to­ry, theo­re­ti­cal­ly ad­van­ced, for­ward-loo­king and his­to­ri­cal, re­le­vant to ever­y­day life as well as very fun­da­men­tal: How can the di­gi­tal chan­ge be un­ders­tood, and how can its chal­len­ges be en­coun­te­red? Which lo­gi­cal, rhe­to­ri­cal and aes­t­he­tic fea­tures dis­tin­gu­ish texts, and which or­ders of "know­ledge" do they im­ply? Which spe­ci­fic "know­ledge" is (re-)pro­du­ced by vi­su­al arts and cul­tu­ral fiel­ds cha­rac­te­ri­sed by vi­sua­li­ty? How can cul­tu­ral-his­to­ri­cal ac­ces­ses to pre­sent and past be un­ders­tood in the con­text of cul­tu­ral uphea­vals? What are the di­sci­pli­na­ry back­grounds for cul­tu­ral re­se­arch? The stu­dy pro­gram­me enables an in­di­vi­du­al pro­fes­sio­nal ori­en­ta­ti­on and spe­cia­li­sa­ti­on through the choice of an area of con­cen­tra­ti­on and a mi­nor. The Cul­tu­ral Sci­en­ces Area of In­te­gra­ti­on pro­vi­des a com­mon foun­da­ti­on for cul­tu­ral sci­en­ces. With the teaching re­se­arch pro­ject you rea­li­se an in­de­pen­dent re­se­arch-re­la­ted pro­ject un­der pro­fes­sio­nal gui­dance. The cross-di­sci­pli­na­ry com­ple­men­ta­ry stu­dies pro­gram­me sup­ple­ments and ex­pands sub­ject-spe­ci­fic con­tents with a per­spec­tive re­flec­ting on aca­de­mics and prac­tical ap­p­li­ca­ti­on. The va­rious elec­tive and com­bi­na­ti­on op­por­tu­nities in the Mas­ters pro­gram­me in Cul­tu­ral Sci­en­ces – Cul­tu­re, Arts and Me­dia enable an in­te­rest-dri­ven cour­se of stu­dies and cont­ri­bu­te towards a de­epe­ned un­der­stan­ding of so­ci­al­ly re­le­vant to­pics. Upon com­ple­ti­on of stu­dies you earn the Mas­ter of Arts (M.A.) de­gree.

The Mas­ters pro­gram­me in Cul­tu­ral Sci­en­ces – Cul­tu­re, Arts and Me­dia is sui­ta­ble for stu­dents who would like to pur­sue an aca­de­mic ca­re­er as well as for tho­se who would like to take on re­s­pon­si­ble ac­tivi­ties in the cul­tu­ral and crea­ti­ve in­dus­try, in the art field, in the me­dia or in the pu­blic cul­tu­ral sec­tor or in foun­da­ti­ons. Qua­li­fied stu­dents in the Mas­ters pro­gram­me who are par­ti­cu­lar­ly in­te­rested in re­se­arch have the op­por­tu­ni­ty from as ear­ly as the first se­mes­ter of their Mas­ters de­gree cour­se to si­mul­ta­neous­ly ob­tain the ac­credi­ta­ti­on of the doc­to­ra­te and to re­gis­ter for doc­to­ral stu­dies with the doc­to­ral track. As a re­sult, stu­dents are in­vol­ved in the sci­en­ti­fic re­se­arch at an ear­ly sta­ge, and can plan the Mas­ters de­gree and doc­to­ra­te in suc­ces­si­on. The re­se­arch trai­ning group "Cul­tu­res of Cri­ti­cism. Forms, Me­dia, Ef­fects" spon­so­red by the Ger­man Re­se­arch Foun­da­ti­on (DFG) is being es­ta­blis­hed for the win­ter se­mes­ter 16/​17 at the fa­cul­ty of cul­tu­ral sci­ence. Mem­bers of the re­se­arch trai­ning group will ex­ami­ne the pos­si­bi­li­ties, ef­fects and con­di­ti­ons of cri­ti­cal man­ners of re­pre­sen­ta­ti­on and pro­ce­du­res in an in­ter­di­sci­pli­na­ry man­ner. Twel­ve doc­to­ral can­di­da­tes and nine other up-and-co­m­ing young sci­en­tists will be spon­so­red. The pro­gram­me is tar­ge­ted at gra­dua­tes with a Ba­che­lors or any equi­va­lent de­gree in a pro­gram­me of stu­dy fo­cu­sing on cul­tu­ral, hu­man or so­ci­al sci­en­ces, who eit­her wish to fur­ther shar­pen their pro­fi­le in cul­tu­ral sci­en­ces or who want to com­ple­ment their Ba­che­lors de­gree with cour­ses in cul­tu­ral sci­en­ces. All gra­dua­tes from re­la­ted di­sci­pli­nes are wel­co­me to the Mas­ters pro­gram­me. Ge­ne­ral re­qui­re­ments for ad­mis­si­on in­clu­de, among others, suf­fi­ci­ent Eng­lish lan­gua­ge pro­fi­ci­en­cy.

Stu­dents ta­king the Mas­ters pro­gram­me in Cul­tu­ral Sci­en­ces in­te­gra­te a stay ab­road into their cour­se of stu­dies in the third or fourth se­mes­ter wi­t­hin the scope of the Eras­mus+ pro­gram­me and with non-Eu­ro­pean part­ners wi­t­hin the frame­work of ap­prox. 30 fa­cul­ty-re­la­ted ex­ch­an­ge pro­gram­mes. You will find fur­ther in­for­ma­ti­on about the part­ner uni­ver­si­ties on the pa­ges of the International Office . For stu­dents with the area of con­cen­tra­ti­on Textu­al Cul­tu­res: Phi­lo­so­phy, Li­te­ra­tu­re, His­to­ry the­re is also an op­por­tu­ni­ty wi­t­hin the scope of the Ger­man-Ita­li­an co­ope­ra­ti­on with the Uni­ver­si­ty of Ge­noa to spend the se­cond Mas­ters year at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Ge­noa (Uni­ver­sità de­g­li Stu­di di Ge­no­va) and to earn two Mas­ters de­grees wi­t­hin two ye­ars on the ba­sis of the spe­ci­fi­cal­ly co­or­di­na­ted cur­ri­cu­lum.
