Описание программы обучения "Dentistry"

The aim of the degree in dentistry is the scientifically trained, theoretically and practically trained dentist, who is capable of self-reliant and independent dental practice, further training, postgraduate studies and ongoing training.

The training is intended to impart basic knowledge, skills and abilities in all subjects that are required for dental care for the population. The training to become a dentist is carried out on a scientific basis as well as practice, population and patient-related.

After passing the dental exam, you can apply for a license to practice medicine. A two-year preparation period must be proven for admission to the health insurance fund.
The doctorate can only be completed after the state examination; this is not a prerequisite for practicing the dental profession.

The professional practice as a dentist is mainly done:

  • in independent practice
  • employed in a practice
  • at universities and research institutions

Further training is possible for:

  • Specialist dentist for orthodontics (duration 4 years)
  • Specialist dentist for oral surgery (duration 3 years)
  • Specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery (requires additional studies in human medicine)

Учебный план программы обучения "Dentistry"

The study of dentistry is regulated nationwide by the licensing regulations for dentists and by the provisional partial study regulations of the Julius-Maximilians University of Würzburg. You can find extensive information on the courses offered by the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Würzburg on the website of the Dentistry course.

The study of dentistry is divided into a preclinical and a clinical section of 5 semesters each. After 2 semesters the scientific preliminary examination (preliminary physics) should be taken, after 5 semesters the dental preliminary examination (physics) should be taken. After passing the preliminary dental examination, the clinical study section follows with 5 further semesters, followed by an examination semester for the dental examination. The study of dentistry ends with the dental examination (state examination).

The doctorate can only be completed after the state examination; this is not a prerequisite for practicing the dental profession.
