The bachelor's degree in Digital Business is an interdisciplinary degree that deals with the development and application of information technologies in an essential sub-area of business informatics. These and similar questions are the focus of the Digital Business bachelor's degree. The course is based on interdisciplinary course content that deals with the development and application of information technologies in an essential sub-area of ​​business informatics.

DESIGNING THE DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

The overall context of the course is shaped by the digital transformation of the economy and society. Digital technologies are having a major impact on our everyday lives. People spend time in digital media, shop online, and get many services through different apps.

Companies in Germany are increasingly having to deal with the design of digital business and operating models (such as Google, Amazon, Tesla, Uber and AirBnB). Within the main topic Digital Business, content from computer science is combined with content from business administration in connection with the design of digital business models, software-based products and services, the development of digital interfaces with corporate interest groups (e.g. customers, society, politics) as well as the modeling and implementation of internal company value-added processes.

In the sense of practice-oriented training, the degree program provides qualification for different job descriptions, which are in demand above all for start-ups, small and medium-sized companies as well as product and innovation areas in consulting, industrial and service companies.

Relevant areas of application are in many different job profiles, e.g. in the development of new digital products and services, in marketing and e-commerce, in the design of media and content, the development of a modern IT infrastructure or the design of artificial intelligence.

The degree program therefore closely links the teaching of the basics of computer science, business administration and business informatics with the solution of application-oriented problems. This is particularly expressed through project-oriented teaching and a strong integration of business practice.

Particular importance is attached to the practical relevance of the teaching material and the individual support of the students. In addition to acquiring specialist skills, the focus is also on personal development. For this purpose, the students acquire skills in the areas of teamwork, didactics, interdisciplinary cooperation and in relation to practice-oriented communication and the presentation of complex problems and their solutions.

Independent thinking, decision-making and acting of the students as a significant contribution both to personal development and to scientific and professional qualifications is particularly encouraged by the project-oriented teaching and the practical semester.

The elective area enables both individual profile building and the further development of interdisciplinary skills. It is precisely this interdisciplinarity that makes a significant contribution to qualifying for qualified employment, since the subject area serves to connect specialist disciplines across the board.

Students with an above-average bachelor's degree can deepen their education with a master's degree. Therefore, the course imparts the competence to apply scientific methods and for a scientifically oriented solution to entrepreneurial issues.

Das 5. Semester enthält eine betriebliche Praxisphase.

Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt des Bachelorprogramms Digital Business liegt in der Anwendung eines starken Praxisbezugs. Dies drückt sich besonders durch eine projektorientierte Lehre und eine starke Einbindung der Unternehmenspraxis aus. Projektorientierte Lehrveranstaltungen werden ab dem ersten Semester durchgehend mit den Schwerpunkten Entrepreneurship, Software, Modellierung, Systementwicklung und Innovationsmanagement umgesetzt.

Die Aufgabenstellungen werden in Kooperation mit Partnern aus der Unternehmenspraxis entwickelt. Besonderes wertgelegt wird auf den Praxisbezug des Lehrstoffes sowie auf die individuelle Betreuung der Studierenden.

Neben der Erlangung von Fachkompetenzen steht auch die Persönlichkeitsbildung im Fokus. Hierzu erwerben die Studierenden Kompetenzen in den Bereichen Teamfähigkeit, Didaktik, interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit sowie in Bezug auf die praxisorientierte Kommunikation und Darstellung komplexer Problemstellungen sowie deren Lösungen.

Selbständiges Denken, Entscheiden und Handeln der Studierenden als wesentlicher Beitrag sowohl zur Persönlichkeitsentwicklung als auch zu einer wissenschaftlichen sowie berufsqualifizierenden Befähigung wird insbesondere durch die projektorientierte Lehre und das berufspraktische Semester gefördert.

In seven semesters, the Digital Business bachelor's program at Reutlingen University teaches practice-oriented and scientifically sound models, methods and procedures for a first professional university degree.

Duration of study: 7 semesters, the 5th semester includes a practical phase.

The course includes subjects from computer science, business administration and business informatics. In the higher semesters, there are more and more interdisciplinary courses. The practice-oriented orientation of the course is particularly evident in the practical phase (internship) and the continuous implementation of project-oriented courses throughout all semesters. The program is rounded off by compulsory electives, which offer the possibility of deepening or profiling. At the end of the course, an independent, scientific thesis (bachelor thesis) is written.
