Ökotrophologie

A practical focus has the highest priority in the Ecotrophology program at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. In special laboratory courses, food is produced and evaluated. Students also get to know the many facets of quality management. They work on nutritional physiology, sensors, hygiene, and technological and economic requirements. This means that they are later able to advise end consumers on nutritional and household issues. Or they take on challenging tasks in mid-level management in the food and household management industry.

Ecotrophology aims to train interdisciplinary experts whose core competence is in serving consumers in the complex economic, social, and political environment. In operations that produce goods for end consumers, in particular food producers, these experts work on manufacturing products that correspond to the requirements regarding nutritional physiology, senses, hygiene, technology, and the economy. With direct or indirect contact, the experts also enable consumers to make competent decisions in their daily actions, especially those related to nutrition.

Ecotrophologists work as division managers, heads of operation, in product development, or in food companies’ quality or hygiene management. They also work in community catering, in large households, in service operations, or in public agencies. Additional fields of activity include market research, continuing education, and consulting consumers, debtors, or about nutrition.

With a Bachelor's degree, you can work in middle management or as a self-employed person. Ecotrophologists work as department heads, as plant managers, as product developers, in quality management or in the hygiene management of companies in the food industry, public catering, in large households, in service companies or in authorities. Other fields of activity include market research, training and further education as well as consumer, debtor and nutritional advice.

Students in the Bachelor's degree in ecotrophology can spend a semester abroad in the following ways:

     
  • as an internship abroad as part of the internship. Scholarships for internships in other European countries are available from the Leonardo office in Saxony-Anhalt.
  • as a semester abroad at a university abroad.

You can complete a semester abroad:

  • at any university close to ecotrophology that you are looking for. In this case, discuss the recognition options with the subject advisor before the semester abroad.
  • at an Erasmus partner university in the LOEL department (Erasmus partner means: waiver of tuition fees, possibility of financial support).

    Students from the Bernburg Department of Agriculture, Ecotrophology and Landscape Development often swap desks with the great outdoors. Bernburg's green campus with 50 hectares of experimental field, the most modern laboratories in the life sciences and numerous project gardens offers experimental places for teaching and applied research in agriculture, ecotrophology, nature conservation, landscape architecture and nutritional therapy. In the project-oriented course, we rely on technology transfer and interdisciplinary know-how in cooperation with practice. Regardless of whether it is about innovations in agricultural production, product development, securing biodiversity or designing urban and landscape areas - we are concerned with sustainable development in the industrial age. Great tasks can only be accomplished together.
