Technology is the driver of our progress, innovations shape our future. But ideas and increasingly intelligent technical solutions must also be implemented in ever shorter time frames and with increasing cost pressure. Technical knowledge alone is then no longer sufficient - economic thinking must also be added. Because innovations only prevail if they are produced cost-effectively and successfully put on the market. That means: engineers and business economists have to work hand in hand. Industrial engineers support them in this. You will find solutions across departmental boundaries, with engineering expertise and business expertise.
The industrial engineering course is characterized by a generalist and interdisciplinary education in technical and economic subjects. This opens up a wide range of fields of application for you in almost all areas of the company - especially in areas where technology and business meet.

The Industrial Engineering course is characterized by a broad and interdisciplinary education in both technical and economic subjects. This opens up a wide range of professional fields of application in almost all areas of industrial companies.
In order for companies to be successful in their markets today, of course, attractive products are required. In particular due to technological development, especially digitalization, also known as Industry 4.0, products are becoming obsolete ever faster and have to be renewed at ever shorter intervals. The so-called "time-to-market" is a critical success factor, i.e. the speed at which companies manage to implement new product ideas and bring them to market. In addition, technological progress makes completely new products, services, manufacturing processes and business models possible. But despite all the pressure to be quick and to come up with new product ideas, technical solutions must also be implemented in an economically viable manner from a cost perspective. Technical perspectives alone are not enough - economic thinking is indispensable.
The course is divided into a basic course, followed by a practical semester and an advanced course. The big advantage: You do not have to decide on a specialization right from the start - as is the case with many university courses, but only when you have reached the advanced phase and can already assess what interests you and what suits you.

Faculty of Industrial Engineering
East Bavarian Technical University of Amberg-WeidenOn 1. October 1997 started the industrial engineering course (WI) with 45 students and 2 professors. In accordance with the requirements of the regional industry, the content was geared towards engineering sciences such as technology and innovation management, logistics, environmental technology and information processing from the start. With already 235 students, WI was anchored as a separate faculty in the university in the year 2003 . With the support of the Faculty of Business Administration, the second degree program was launched in 2004 - Management & amp; European languages - known today as International Technology Management (TM) - established at WI. After the conversion of the diploma to bachelor and master courses 2008 the first master course was founded at the Faculty of WI: Intercultural Business and Technology Management (IM) . In the year 2010 , with 575 students at WI, the Bachelor's degree Medical Technology was added, which has been crowned since 2013 of a laboratory landscape and equipment that is unique among all universities on over 1100 square meters in the Weiden technology campus . Since 2014 the Master’s degree in Medical Technology has been established as the newest course.
Today the 600 students of the faculty are looked after by 21 professors and 4 teachers for special tasks . Our 34 employees ensure that teaching and all faculty matters run smoothly. In addition, the faculty is supported by around 20 lecturers from practice, who pass on their experience and know-how from business and industry to the students.
The modernly equipped laboratories strong > With their extensive equipment they offer excellent conditions for teaching and studying as well as for application-oriented research.
