The course for the globalized world. Business and economics perspectives, English-language courses, an international focus and a student body with diverse cultural backgrounds - that's the International Business and Economics course.

In addition to a sound education in all important business and economic topics, we offer you a view of the whole world from Schmalkalden. You sit with people from other cultures in English-language courses and get to know their unique perspectives.

Your lecturers maintain connections with partner universities around the world, share their experiences with you and support you in choosing the right university for the semester abroad, which is firmly integrated into the course. With a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree, the world is literally your oyster. People with international experience are sought after everywhere and there are many opportunities both in Germany and abroad to help shape the global world of tomorrow.

A special feature of the system-accredited degree program is the integrated and thus guaranteed semester abroad at one of our more than 70 partner universities in Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia or Australia. Optionally, you can also complete several semesters abroad. Abroad, you can attend lectures in English as well as those in the local language.

The 6-semester Bachelor's degree program in "International Business and Economics" consists of five elements:

12 compulsory subjects (60 ECTS points)
Elective subjects (110 ECTS points)
One semester abroad
Study paper (in preparation for the Bachelor's thesis)
8-week Bachelor's thesis (10 ETCS)

The International Business and Economics degree program covers a broad field of knowledge that imparts specialist and methodological skills in economics. In addition to the fundamentals of business administration and economics, the students' language skills are also to be consolidated and trained. Click here for the module descriptions.

Compulsory subjects International Business and Economics:

Mathematics, Statistics, Soft Skills, Marketing, Finance and Investment, Intercultural Management, Principles of Economics, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting and Digital Business (60 ECTS)

Our faculty offers several modules in 13 different elective areas. You determine your personal focus by selecting different modules. At least 110 ECTS must be acquired.

You have a wide selection of elective modules from our elective areas. Further options are available as part of the recommended semester abroad.

Elective subjects in business administration:

Entrepreneurship and innovation management
Corporate and behavioral finance
Management accounting and management control
Marketing
Human resources management and organization
Taxes and balance sheets
Tourism industry

Elective subjects in economics:

Financial science
Health and environmental economics
International economic relations
Legal, behavioral and strategic economics
Transport and Regional policy

At least 135 ECTS of the 170 ECTS to be acquired through lectures in the International Business and Economics degree program must be completed in English. At least 25 of the ECTS to be acquired in elective modules must be acquired during the semester at a foreign partner university.
