Work-based learning right from the start
After only 1 1⁄2 years of study, students have their first opportunity to carry out IT-related work during an internship.
During the internship students can earn on average between €800 and €1,200 per month.
- German citizens are encouraged to do their mandatory internship abroad.
- Non-German citizens are supported to complete their mandatory internship in Germany, Austria or the German-speaking part of Switzerland.
The internship semester gives students insight into the real business world and the opportunity to apply some of the knowledge and skills gained. Students usually organise their own internships according to their particular interests.
Furtwangen University is located in one of the most prosperous states in Germany - Baden-Württemberg, the state with the highest employment rate of 97% (2019) in Germany and well-known international companies such as Daimler, Porsche, Bosch, Siemens, Hugo Boss and SAP.
Students can meet and gain contacts to industry representatives through the University‘s bi-annual careers fair – attended by more than 90 different companies.
Furtwangen University supports career development through a job portal with hundreds of available traineeships, full-time jobs and thesis projects. Enrolled students can register, upload their individual profile and receive job advertisements from various companies which match their profiles and search criteria.

Interdisciplinary strategies
International Business Information Systems is an interdisciplinary degree programme with 3 areas of specialisation: Digital Business Management, Applied Computer Science and Data Science & Artificial Intelligence. In seven semesters, we teach you the core knowledge of digital business and computer science. We prepare you to analyse situations, data and processes in markets and companies, to develop business ideas and strategies and to design and practically implement solutions, such as designing apps, programming websites, configuring the SAP system and becoming international team players!
Solid basis
In the foundation courses, which comprise the first three semesters, you will take basic courses and learn the fundamentals of business administration and IT. In your first semesters, you will learn programming, basic manual skills and a lot of fundamentals of business administration and marketing. We also get you up to speed in applied mathematics and train you to work with databases.
Choose your area of specialisation
In the fourth semester, you gain practical experience in a paid internship – six months in a company where you can apply and develop your theoretical knowledge. You then take advanced courses. You can choose between five subjects to specialise in. Electives can be taken in such areas as marketing, data analytics or logistics – and of course at a partner university abroad!
Finale with opportunities
Your studies are completed in the seventh semester with the bachelor's thesis. The thesis is dedicated to a topic that is of particular interest to you. The bachelor's thesis can be carried out in cooperation with a company – this way you develop a solution for a real task (and also have a very good chance of being taken on by the company.)

We offer the bachelor's programs in business informatics and business networks eBusiness, as well as the two master's programs in business application architectures and business consulting. This shows that we always want to stay at the forefront of development. We always keep our study plans up to date, the courses we have started will be fully expanded and remain trend-setting.
