Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Jurisprudence"
The demand side of the labor market for lawyers is essentially determined by the following three areas of activity:
- Justice and the administration of justice
- Public administration
- Economy and associations
Justice and administration of justice
The hope of a job in the judiciary (e.g. as a judge) will only come true for very few graduates. Only the best are used here. 80% of lawyers with the second state examination work as lawyers. The number of licensed attorneys has roughly doubled from the early 1990s to the present day, while the need for legal advice has not increased by the same amount.
Lawyers striving to become self-employed should first gain professional experience as employees in a law firm. Here, skills can be acquired that are essential for independence: the deepening of professional and social skills.
But here too - especially in the larger law firms - high demands are now placed on young lawyers, such as distinction exams, knowledge of foreign languages or even a doctorate. In addition, there is increased regional mobility, for example the willingness to work in another federal state or, after a certain training period, abroad.
Public administration
The demand for administrative lawyers is declining in view of the tight public budgets. However, not all positions of administrative lawyers who are going into retirement can be saved, so there will be constant demand in the future, albeit at a low level.
Economy and associations
In addition to traditional legal activities in the judiciary, administration of justice and administration, lawyers have numerous different development opportunities in the economy. However, legal scholars interested in this area should also have a qualification profile that is tailored to the private sector. On the other hand, the qualification as a fully qualified lawyer is not absolutely necessary for a job in the economy. In this context, reference is made to the above-mentioned bachelor's degree programs with legal modules (in Münster e.g. "Economics and Law" or "Politics and Law"), which can open up professional fields in these areas.
Международный обмен по программе обучения "Jurisprudence"
In times of globalization and a world that is growing ever closer together, international courses of study are becoming increasingly popular. Anyone who wants more than “just” to sniff the air of another country for a semester is in good hands with an international course. The Faculty of Law offers both international options for its own students and courses for foreign students. For example, the Münster student can acquire a Master of Laws (LL.M.) at one of the numerous partner universities around the world. For foreign students, the Faculty of Law offers the same degree as part of the “German Law” master’s course.
The Faculty of Law promotes the mobility of its students and maintains numerous partnerships with faculties throughout Europe, from Spain to Poland to Northern Iceland, as part of the ERASMUS program. The program at the faculty is not limited to sending students out into the wide world: every semester, many law students from all over Europe come to Münster and experience everyday German student life.
The international partnerships of the Faculty of Law are long-running: it is not only closely integrated into the European ERASMUS and SOCRATES programs, but also maintains contacts with more than eighty European and non-European universities. In doing so, it consciously promotes the international exchange of students and scientists.
Стажировки и практика в программе обучения "Jurisprudence"
The practical study period is an admission requirement for the state compulsory subject examination. The legal basis for this is Section 8 of the NRW Legal Training Act. The practical study period lasts a total of 3 months and is usually completed in two parts during the lecture-free period. Part of this takes 6 weeks in the administration of justice, primarily with a lawyer or in the legal department of a commercial enterprise, the other 6 weeks with an administrative authority. The internships can also be divided into three-week sections.

The training consists of two parts: a university course that concludes with the first legal examination (it is no longer called the state examination because part of the examination is no longer taken at the OLG but at the university), and a two-year practical preparatory service (legal clerkship), at the end of which there is the second state examination in law. Only those who have successfully completed both sections are qualified to be a judge as well as to exercise all other legal professions such as lawyer, judge, public prosecutor, lawyer in administration, business and associations.
The guiding principle of traditional legal training is still the “uniform lawyer” with this comprehensive qualification. Accordingly, specialization is only possible to a limited extent during the training (focus areas, additional additional offers from the universities, such as the subject-specific foreign language training for lawyers offered in Münster).
The Legal Training Act provides for a standard university study period of 9 semesters until the completion of the first legal examination, including an examination semester. The curricula of the law faculties are based on this standard period of study. Through the introduction of the so-called "free trial regulation", the average duration of study could be reduced from 12 to approx. 10 semesters. The minimum duration of study is 4 semesters. In such a short time, however, only those students who have already completed relevant training (e.g. Rechtspfleger).
After the first examination, after a certain waiting period, the two-year legal traineeship follows, which ends with the second state legal examination. The traineeship includes practical training in various positions, namely at courts, the public prosecutor's office, in administration, with a lawyer and in an elective position. After two years, the second state examination ("Second State Exam" or "Assessorexamen") takes place. In total, training to become a fully qualified lawyer takes around seven years.
The Legal Education Act does not prescribe a specific course structure for students. The JAG NRW only stipulates that when registering for the first state examination in law, one must have studied law for at least 4 semesters, that certain proof of performance must be submitted and that the course of study must have an “appropriate order”. There are no specific requirements for this, for example there is no compulsory attendance in the lectures. This is an expression of academic freedom, which basically gives students the freedom to organize their studies independently.
A suggestion for an appropriate structure can be found in the curriculum of the Münster faculty. This is only a non-binding recommendation for the students. However, it should hardly make sense to choose a completely different structure. As a rule of thumb: no more than 20-22 hours of events per week, otherwise sufficient preparatory and follow-up work is not possible.

University of MünsterWith almost 5,000 students, the Faculty of Law is one of the largest legal departments in Germany. Every year around 600 students complete their studies with the first state examination in law, with an above-average number of them with good and very good results - just like their faculty, which regularly comes out on top in rankings.
Many first-year students consult one of the university rankings published in Germany when choosing their university. Looking at the rankings of recent years, the Law Faculty of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (WWU) can be proud of: It regularly takes a top position among the 44 faculties in Germany.
