The classic job description of the sound engineer as an artistic production manager for music productions is increasingly being expanded to include other areas of activity. For example, the profession of “sound engineer” can also be found in theatre, film, television and sound reinforcement. There is an increasing need for competent specialists with a trained ear and musical-artistic training in the sound sector. These changes in the media landscape are therefore always appropriately taken into account as part of the music broadcasting/sound recording degree program.

The Bachelor of Music Music Broadcasting/Sound Engineer course at the Erich Thienhaus Institute of the Detmold University of Music serves to promote and specifically direct the students' musical, scientific and technical talent in order to prepare them for the task of artistic recording manager of music productions in the field of classical music and popular music and media productions in the audiovisual sector.

For example, in recent years the Baltic Sea Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, the BuJazzO and many other ensembles and young artists have benefited from the extensive know-how of the young sound engineers.

From the third semester onwards, practical exercises at the start of your studies increasingly turn into studio technical practice and independent production projects. Two internships round off the course.
