Online media management means knowing digital strategies at all stages of value creation and being able to use and implement digital technologies. Online media managers are online experts who support companies in the constant change of the digitized world.

The Online Media Management course trains internationally oriented online media specialists for the management of online media. You have interdisciplinary knowledge in the areas of digital marketing & web analytics, online technologies and digital content creation. In addition, they gain their first experience in project management through practical projects.

Technological knowledge is an enabler for shaping digital change. Therefore, online media management students get to know, understand and use the basics of programming and relevant technologies through practical use cases. In addition, trends such as digital transformation or data-driven marketing are taken into account.

Due to the high speed of innovation and technological development, areas of activity in the field of online media are dynamic and subject to constant change. Since the professional fields in these areas are still young, there is a great need for qualified personnel in companies. With the help of their interdisciplinary knowledge, our graduates can work in the online segments of different markets and companies - from media companies, agencies and industrial companies to service providers. The possible fields of activity of the graduates as digital specialists or executives are diverse in the online area, for example in the areas of product and project management, digitization, e-business, strategic management, digital marketing, content creation, web analytics and performance marketing or IT conception and implementation.

In a globalized job market, intercultural competence and international experience are decisive factors for professional success. Therefore, some courses are taught in English. It is also recommended to spend the fourth or sixth semester at a partner university abroad. The practical phase in the fifth semester can also be completed outside of Germany. The course and the university support international projects through targeted information events and individual advisory services for students. Language courses for various language levels are also offered as preparation.

The fifth semester is the practical semester. During the internship, the students should learn the ability to act independently and responsibly. This usually happens in different projects. At the same time, the students get to know the real world of work and can put the course content into practice.

In many cases, the students make contacts during their internship in the company in order to then write their bachelor thesis. An internship also enables direct entry into the company after graduation.

The internship can take place in the following company divisions or fields of activity:

  • the conception and technical implementation of multimedia information services for employees, customers and suppliers,
  • advising companies on the use of social media,
  • the management of projects for the implementation of digital strategies
  • the conception of new digital business fields and models
  • the design and implementation of innovative services with new digital media (mobile services, UMTS, marketing and communication measures),
  • the planning, design and implementation of web-based processes for online services,
  • the planning and design of company portals (e.g. customer / supplier portals).

Students can also do their internship in companies abroad. Our students have already completed their practical semester in South Africa, China or India.

The course is divided into a two-semester basic course, the main course, which comprises four semesters, and a practical semester. Knowledge from the fields of economics, media and online technologies is imparted in the basic course.

Building on a well-founded training in key competencies, students are able to recognize and understand connections between the disciplines.

In the compulsory area of ​​the main course, the focus is on corporate management, strategy development in the digital segment, media production, digital marketing, web analytics, and media and web projects. The fifth semester is a practical semester that is carried out in a company of the student's choice. In semesters six and seven, interdisciplinary projects are carried out in interdisciplinary groups.

By selecting the projects and courses in the elective area, various focus areas of the degree can be deepened individually. In close cooperation with practical partners, the course is continuously aligned with the requirements of the job market.

The use of innovative teaching and learning methods as well as the small number of students per semester ensure an optimal learning situation and create the conditions for the greatest possible learning success. The standard period of study is seven semesters and ends with a bachelor's thesis. Graduates receive the state-recognized Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree.
