In the Practical School Studies, students learn to combine technical, general and subject-didactic knowledge with the practical planning and design of teaching processes. They reflect on their own professional role and derive consequences for their practical work as well as for their further studies. Six internships are planned for the primary school teaching degree:

The basic internship in the first semester serves as an initial orientation in the professional field and its exploration. It is carried out throughout the semester. After the third semester, the four-week block internship A, also within the framework of educational sciences, is completed.

The practical school exercises related to the subject or to the elementary school didactics take place in the second or third year of study in small groups during the semester. Here the students develop skills in the planning, implementation and evaluation of lessons, with special consideration of didactic knowledge.
The two block internships B also take place in relation to the subject or the primary school didactics. The students apply the technical, didactic and pedagogical-psychological knowledge acquired when reflecting on teaching and learning processes through independent planning, implementation and evaluation of a larger teaching section.

The course includes one subject with the associated subject didactics and three elementary school didactics, educational sciences including elementary school pedagogy, practical school studies (block and semester-accompanying school internships) and the supplementary area. The subject is studied at the faculty where the subject is offered, the primary school didactics and educational sciences are studied at the faculty of educational sciences.

In the field of Educational Science, students deal with education and training processes, primary school pedagogy, teaching and professional research as well as general didactics, pedagogical psychology and the educational system. The following modules are to be taken:

1. Orientation knowledge educational science
2. Teaching and professional research, general didactics
3. Practical school studies: Block internship A
4. Basics of teaching, learning and developmental psychology
5. Educational fields of application
6. Current developments and perspectives in primary school and primary school teaching
7. Diagnosis and transitions in elementary school
8. Dealing with heterogeneity in elementary school

The supplementary area in the course for teaching at primary schools includes speech training and supplementary studies with further offers for individual deepening and profiling.

The degree is completed by the first state examination, which must be taken in addition to all module examinations.
The First State Examination consists of a scientific paper, two oral examinations and a written examination.

In the course of the course, 240 credit points (ECTS) are acquired, including the first state examination.

Admission requirements for the state examination:
In English, a stay abroad is required (2 months).

The faculty finds a reliable partner in the Center for Teacher Training, School and Vocational Training Research (ZLSB) for coordinating the cross-faculty teacher training.

    In the NC course of study for teaching at primary schools, the average grade of the university entrance qualification will be improved by 0.5 if you have completed at least one year of a voluntary social year in pedagogy (FSJ pedagogy) or alternatively a full-time internship in an educational institution for children, adolescents or young adults of at least 6 months duration and a minimum of 700 hours can be proven. For this purpose, after completing the online application, a corresponding application and proof of the completed FSJ or internship must be sent to the TU Dresden. You will receive the link to the application after entering the data in the application portal.

    In addition, the average grade of the higher education entrance qualification will be improved by a maximum of 1 grade if the applicant can prove that they have in-depth knowledge of the Sorbian language (level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference).
